Book of Shadows / Grimoire Cleansing

This spell is performed usually for your Book of Shadows (BOS) / Grimoire, however if can be done on any book you feel needs to have the energies it has absorbed cleared.
This spell clears the book of all energies, ready to have a clear purpose or dedication assigned to it.
The information contained within will then only be noticeable to those who you allow to view it.
I keep mine in plain view and it is never noticed by those who do not follow the alternative path. 

Before you begin to set up for the spell it is a good idea to cleanse yourself & focus on the task which will help build intent.
Do this by either smudging yourself with white sage/desert sage/white copal (or a combination of all) or you can have a cleansing/purifying bath or shower (sea salt scrubs are great for these).

Tools & Items You Will Need

  • Your Book
  • White Sage, Desert Sage &/or White Copal
  • A Coal Tablet
  • Cauldron or Fire Proof Dish

When You Are Ready to Begin

  • Begin by setting up your sacred space in preparation for both this spell & casting the sacred circle.  
  • Concentrate & focus on your intent for the spell.
  • We use our altar, clearing enough space for the book to sit in the middle, if you don't have an altar use a table/floor.  
  • Other items you can also use include stones/crystals/candles in a pentagram formation to symbolize the 5 elements if you wish.
  • Having white sage or your chosen cleansing incense ready & burning is often helpful.
  • As you recite the spell pass the smoking cleansing incense over the book.
  • Then pass the book over the smoke.
  • Always keeping the book in the circle.
  • Recite the spell as often as you feel is necessary, you will know when the energy has peaked and the spell is done as you will feel it.


     Now you are ready to cast the circle, followed by the book cleansing spell. The following calls to the Egyptian deities (in this case Djehuti known by the Greeks as Thoth) if you are more comfortable using others please do.

Enrich all who view these pages with knowledge, peace & insight,
