Celtic Sacred Trees
(Northern Hemisphere Calendar)
The druids/celts calendar uses trees to mark the year & their zodiac and although these are centred round the northern hemisphere year which is the opposite to us in the southern hemisphere knowing these trees and their associated traits can be helpful when you need their specific traits in your energetic work.
Alder
The trailblazer associated with the element of air and often used to make whistles to call this element.
Bay Laurel
This is the same tree that the leaves are used in cooking, as a magickal plant the leaves are used to induce psychic visions and are associated with the triple goddess. It also counteracts negativity and self restriction and will help to induce inspiration and visions when placed under the pillow.
Broom
Also known as Irish & Scotch Broom is associated with the spring equinox, purification, protection and as having healing powers through its diuretic shoots.
Elder
The Seeker, Elderberry, Lady Elder, Ellhorn or White Lady tree associated with the midsummer solstice and used to interact with Faye/Fairies. Wands made from this tree are often used to repel negativity, flutes made from have the same properties.
Hawthorn
The Illusionist, known as the May Tree with wands of this plant highly regarded as powerful.
Ivy
The Survivor and poisonous is connected with the winter solstice, used for decoration during this time and is seen as a protector when ground close to the house.
Oak
The Stabiliser, Tanner's Bark and king of trees, one of most frequent woods in wand making, the acorns are associated with fertility and as an incense it purifies.

Apple
The cider from the fruits of this tree can be used as a substitute for blood or wine in energy works.
Birch
The Achiever associated with romantic love and also known as the lady of the woods best gathered on the new moon for energy works.
Cedar
The tree of life, associated with earth, the earth element, also known for its preserving qualities (cedar oil), effective for grounding and earth energy magicks.
Eyebright
Used to enhance and promote clairvoyance.
Hazel
The Equalizer, symbolizes pure magicks, healing, divination, effective for instant protection when drawn around you and wands from this tree are powerful protectors.
Juniper
Berries are used in incenses to induce visions.
Pine
One of the seven Irish chieftain trees, often the needles are used for purification in incense, the cones and nuts associated with fertility, is also used in cleansing baths, to purify and sanctify a sacred space and as a symbolic cleanser using the branches as a broom to sweep away negativity.

The Enchanter used to make wands for healing, general and sun related magicks. The leaves are used for educing psychic dreams by placing them under the pillow.
Blackthorn
Also known as Sloe, thorns used in candles to repel negativity and negative people in cord cutting or repelling energy works.
Cherry (Wild)
The Black Cherry with chips of the tree used in festivals usually buried during festivities.
Furze
Also known as Gorse (this is a prohibited weed in most parts of Australia), this plant is associated with the spring equinox with its wood and flowers burnt for protection and to offer strength during times of stress and conflict.
Holly
The Ruler, sacred winter tree associated with the Winter Solstice used for decorating during Yule, is a protector and it repels negativity.
Mistletoe
Also known as Birdlime, Golden Bough this is highly regarded by the Druids and is associated with the winter solstice. The berries are poisonous however are used in love incenses and is hung in bunches for protection.

The Inquisitor, used to divine answers.

Rowan
The Thinker, this is also known as the Mountain Ash, Witchwood and Sorb Apple. Rowan is sacred to the goddess Brigit, when used for wants, rods and magickal tools it is powerful and pure. The berries are especially magickal but highly toxic so do not ingest or cause to be absorbed through the skin. All parts of the plant are used in divination, for contacting the ancestors and offering strength during duress.
Willow
The Observer the bark of this plant is what aspirin is derived from, a tea made from the bark has the same effect. This plant is associated with the Moon sacred to the White Lady, it offers inspiration and divination.

Silver Fir
The birth tree used to protect babies and mothers during childbirth where the needles are burnt as a blessing to both mother and baby.
Yew
Sacred to the winter solstice, it symbolizes rebirth and transition, the berries are toxic and should be handled with care and caution and are also associated with ancestral contacts.
