Book of Shadows / Grimoire Dedication

This is performed usually for your Book of Shadows (BOS) / Grimoire, however if can be done on any book you feel needs to be protected.  This protects the information contained within for only those who you allow to view it.  I keep mine in plain view and it is never noticed by those who do follow the alternative path.

Before you begin to set up for the spell it is a good idea to cleanse yourself & focus on the task.  Either by smudging yourself with white sage/desert sage/white copal or you can have a cleansing/purifying bath or shower.  Other tips can be found on the Spell/Ritual Preparation page.

Tools & Items You Will Need

  • White Sage Incense or Smudge Stick
  • A Coal Tablet
  • Cauldron or Fire Proof Dish
  • The Book You Intend Protecting
  • Protection Anointing Oil (Optional)

When You Are Ready to Begin

  • Begin by setting up your sacred space in preparation for both this spell & casting the sacred circle.  
  • We use our altar, clearing enough space for the book to sit in the middle, if you don't have an altar use a table/floor.  
  • Concentrate & focus on your intent all through this spell.
  • Other items you can also use include stones/crystals/candles in a pentagram formation to symbolize the 5 elements if you wish.
  • Having some white sage already burning is often helpful.
  • As you recite the spell pass the smoking incense over the book.
  • Then pass the book over the smoke.
  • Always keeping the book in the circle.
  • Recite the spell as often as you feel is necessary, you will know when the energy has peaked & the spell is done as you will feel it.
  • We have found that doing this spell during the night of the new moon makes it very effective, if you choose not to just remove the second verse line one 'new moon' words.

These secrets entrusted unto me,
Only those on this path can also see,

And all through the coming ages,
May our home be found within these pages,

The veiled path that now we see,

As I call to our lady/s & Lord/s,

Guardians four of direction,
I ask lend thy protection,

So that no prying eye may see,
These secrets entrusted here unto me,

But to those whose map this be,

Searching for earth's true hearth,
